Water
All water given to reptiles for
drinking, as well as water used for
misting, soaking or bathing must
be free of chlorine and heavy
metals. We recommend that you
use bottled drinking water or
bottled natural spring water and
never untreated tap water. If tap
water is used, you should treat it
with a dechlorinating treatment
or allow it to stand for at
least 24 hours before being
introduced to the pet's enclosure to
allow the chlorine to escape. Do not
use distilled water, which can cause
severe medical problems, since it
lacks minerals that are essential to
important body functions.
Clean fresh water must always be
available to reptiles. Many
reptiles will not drink from a bowl
(though one should be provided for
soaking and humidity in almost every
case). Reptiles that do not accept
water from a bowl will typically
drink droplets from leaves and
rocks. So misting with chlorine-free
water is essential. Always be aware
of the humidity levels required by a
pet reptile.
