Chances are your dog is
knocking food out of her bowl for one of two reasons:
The bowl is too deep, so she doesn’t feel comfortable
reaching that far down for her meal. Or she’s bored and
is knocking the food out to make mealtimes more
interesting.
In the first case, you
can buy a wider and shallower bowl. Another alternative
is to try an elevated feeding system, which the dog may
find to be more comfortable.
In the second case, you
might want to try feeding the dog at least some (but not
all) of her food in an interactive feeding device. This
will make the dog “work” for her food, and provide the
physical and mental stimulation that she may be missing.
This
advice assumes that your pet is eating the food once she
knocks it out of the food bowl. If the dog is not eating
most of the food, a veterinarian should be consulted,
since this can be a sign of an illness or dental
problem.
