Since different dogs age
at different rates, there is no set timetable for
becoming “seniors.” As a general rule, dogs should be
placed on a senior diet when they reach the two-thirds
point of their expected lifespan. So, a large dog that
has a life expectancy of 9-10 should be introduced to
senior food between the age of 6 and 7, while a toy
breed, which can be expected to reach 15, should be
placed on a senior formula between 9 and 10. Most
mid-sized dogs should go on senior food at after their
eighth birthday.
PSP stocks senior dog
foods from a variety of leading manufacturers.
Senior dog food formulas
are lower in protein to reduce the demands made on
kidneys, lower in fat to guard against weight gain, and
higher in fiber to aid the digestion process and reduce
the likelihood of constipation.
