Traveling with a Dog or Cat
Tips to keep your pet safe in the car and more.
Before you head out on the road, skies or rails, make sure you have the travel and car must-haves that will keep your pet safe and secure during your next family vacation.
First stop: Safety!
Changes in environment can be startling for your furry friend. Imagine all the smells and sounds they’re taking in while you’re rushing through an airport or train station with them in tow. So much to sniff…must investigate but there’s no time! Keeping them in a cozy place that’s their very own, like a travel pet carrier, can help them feel more at ease.
Buckle Up Your Furry Friend
You always buckle up your seat belt before starting your engine, and it’s important that your pet is safely restrained too! If your dog or cat co-pilot is roaming about the car while you’re in motion, they can get seriously hurt in the case of a sudden stop or an accident. Not to mention, you could be in a dangerous situation if they were to jump into your lap or dart out an open window.
Protecting your pet and everyone in the vehicle can start with the right restraint. Secure your cat in a travel carrier and pick out a durable car safety harness for your dog. While it might take them some time to get used to, these precautions will keep them and everyone in the vehicle safe.
Give Them a Leg Up
If your pet is going to be getting in and out of your car or RV frequently, try introducing a set of travel steps or a pet ramp since too much jumping can cause strain on their joints and unwanted anxiety.
Your pet’s packing list. Whether you’re an ultra-organized packer or more of a pack-and-run kind of person, don’t forget to add your pet’s basics to your pre-vacation checklist list. Start with the basics like fresh water, food, travel bowls, medications, collar, leash, ID tag and medical records – and we’re sure your pet would love if you packed extra treats.
