In partnership with TerraCycle®, we’re proud to provide a FREE recycling program for all brands of pet food, treat and litter bags. We accept flexible plastic pet food, treat and litter bag packaging, from ALL brands, across ALL species, purchased from ANY retailer. Drop off your empty bags in our dedicated collection bins, located in our participating neighborhood stores.

Look for specially marked recycling boxes inside your neighborhood Pet Supplies Plus store.* We accept all flexible plastic pet food, treat and litter bag packaging, from ALL brands, across ALL species, purchased from ANY retailer. *Participating locations only

Collect your flexible plastic pet food & treat bags & return them at your local drop-off.

Recycle

Bags are cleaned, processed & mixed with other plastics to make recycled plastic blends.

Transform

Plastic blends are transformed into new products & don't end up in landfills.

TerraCycle® is an innovative, global waste management company that currently operates across 21 countries worldwide. The pet food industry is one of the largest industries in the country, producing millions of products packaged in hard-to-recycle packaging. Some of this packaging ends up in landfills or our oceans. That is until now. Partnering with leading brands, TerraCycle® helps to recycle products and packaging that would otherwise end up in landfills or being incinerated.

TerraCycle began in 2001, making worm poop plant food from leftover cafeteria waste and packaging it in used soda bottles.

Are there any costs associated with this program?

No, Pet Supplies Plus sponsors this recycling program, so it is free for you to participate!

Can I only drop off products and packaging sold at Pet Supplies Plus?

No, this program accepts empty pet food and treat bags packaging from all brands.

Do I need to clean the pet food and treat bags before I drop them off?

No, you do not need to clean the products and packaging before dropping them off in-store for recycling through TerraCycle®. However, please remove as much of the remaining product as possible and make sure your items are dry before you drop them off.

How are the materials collected in-store recycled?

After you drop off your trash at the designated bin, TerraCycle takes your trash to a local material recovery facility to be recycled. The pet food and treat bags are cleaned and separated by material type. The materials are recycled into raw formats that manufacturers use to make new products.

What can I drop off to recycle?

All brands of pet food, treat bags, and litter bags.

Why can't I recycle these items curbside?

Curbside recyclability depends on your local recycling service’s ability to profit from recycling an item. If the cost of collecting and processing the trash is higher than the value of the resulting raw material, it’s likely that it won’t be recyclable curbside. For most products and packaging, the cost to collect and process them is more than the value of the resulting material. So, while they are technically recyclable, they are not recycled at scale today. That's where TerraCycle® steps in.
