PB & YUM: 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Three ingredients with all the peanut butter goodness.
Dogs love peanut butter. And if a dog doesn’t love them some PB, they might be a cat. Anyway, National Peanut Butter Day (January 24)—or any day—is the perfect time to make these 3-ingredient peanut butter dog treats. Not only are they healthy and yummy, the recipe is also super easy!
PB & YUM: 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Dog Treats
You’ll need:
• 2 cups oatmeal or old-fashioned rolled oats
• 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (Make sure it doesn’t have artificial sweeteners or additives like xylitol. They can be toxic to dogs.)
• 3/4 cup of banana or cooked sweet potato
• Cookie cutter (optional)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a blender, process the oatmeal or rolled oats until you end up with a fine oat flour.
3. Mash the peanut butter with the banana or sweet potato. To cook the sweet potato, you can peel and boil some cubed sweet potato. Or bake it at 425° F for 40 to 55 minutes.
4. Using a fork, combine the flour with your mashed mixture. The dough should be thick and well combined. If it’s dry and crumbly, add 2 to 4 more tablespoons of peanut butter.
5. On a floured surface or large sheet of parchment paper, roll out the dough. It should be about ¼” thick.
6. Cut the dough using your cookie cutter in whatever fun shape you desire. No cookie cutter? No problem. Just roll out the dough into 1” balls and flatten them into circles with your hands.
7. Place cookies on your baking sheet.
8. Bake for about 15 minutes. You’ll know when they’re done when they’re lightly brown underneath.
9. Cool completely for 10 to 15 minutes.
10. Store your homemade treats in an airtight container. They can stay in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
That’s it. You’re happy because of what these treats are made of. They’re happy because, well, it’s peanut butter: the universal language of love for dogs.
If you’re making DIY treats besides these, avoid the following ingredients because they’re poisonous to dogs:
• Anything with caffeine
• Xylitol
• Chocolate
• Yeast dough
• Grapes & raisins
• Macadamia nuts
• Nutmeg
• Fruit pits & seeds
If you have any concerns about food allergies, talk with your veterinarian first before making these or any other dog treats.
