NORMAL BEHAVIOR & INTERACTION
Tomato Frogs are shy, nocturnal frogs that make entertaining pets, but they have no desire to be handled. Handling any frog is very stressful and can cause harm to the animal due to the oils on our skin. Tomato frogs can be kept with others of similar size and age.
FEEDING
Carnivorous (insectivorous) - live food. Protein sources such as gut-loaded crickets, earthworms, wax worms and roaches should be part of their diet.
SUPPLEMENTS
Dust food with calcium and vitamin supplements. As a rule, a growing juvenile’s food should be dusted more often than adult food.
WATER
All water given to amphibians for bathing, swimming or drinking, as well as water used for misting, must be 100% free of chlorine and heavy metals.
BRANCHES & PLANTS
Adding live reptile safe plants to your Tomato Frogs terrarium can help maintain and increase humidity levels as well as provide ample hiding spots.
ENCLOSURE SIZE
A minimum of 10 gallons of tank is suitable for a pair of Tomato Frogs.
SUBSTRATE
We recommend a loose coconut fiber substrate. This substrate will help hold humidity and allow your Tomato Frog to burrow.
DAY/NIGHT CYCLES & HEATING
All amphibians must have distinct day and night periods in their enclosures. Tomato Frogs need 8-12 hours of daytime and 8-12 hours of nighttime.
HABITAT MAINTENANCE
Daily maintenance should consist of spot cleaning by removing soiled substrate, cleaning water bowl thoroughly and wiping glass clean. The entire tank should be cleaned thoroughly at least once every month.
RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES
